Asteroids---The Real Thing

Tens of thousands of these things are zipping through space at great speeds. Many in paths we know about but most remain undetected in their flights around the sun. As late as the 1950's astronomers used to look at the moons many craters thinking that these huge craters were caused by volcanic activity only in later years did we learn that these many craters were caused by the violent impacts of asteroids and meteorite's. And in recent years we are beginning to see the many large asteroid impact sites all over the earth. These were difficult to locate due to the weathering process that exist here on Earth, but with the help of satellite imaging hundreds of major impact sites have been located. Many of these craters are miles across and if such an event would occur today life as we know it would cease. The impact of an asteroid only one mile in diameter in California would create a land tidal wave hundreds of feet high that would sweep across the United States at a speed of about 500 miles an hour literally going coast to coast destroying everything in it path with a resulting dust cloud that would cover the entire earth causing severe climatic changes for tens of years.

The odds are against this happening in our life-time. But the fact is that it will happen again and again in the future and there is little we can do to prevent it. And another frightening truth exist. If such a object is on path to impact the earth in the near future and the authorities know about it you can be sure we, the public will be left in the dark. We will not know the awful truth until the atmosphere is set on fire by the heat of entry and we view the massive fire ball that pushes up through the stratosphere. A fireball that will be seen for hundreds of miles from the impact point. And then we will hear the distant rumble of the fast approaching tidal wave of earth that is barreling down on us with the speed of a jet plane. Not a pretty picture, but a reality that is unavoidable and final! Man-made global warming, Ha! This is the real thing and there is nothing man-made about it---just nature doing it's thing!

The View

THIS AFTERNOON WHILE FISHING ON THE LAKE I OBSERVED TWO DUCKS FLYING OVER MY BOAT AND NOTICED AS THEY FADED INTO THE DISTANCE THEY SEEM TO BE GETTING CLOSER TOGETHER---I KNEW,OF COURSE THIS WAS NOT THE CASE, THAT IT WAS ONLY THE INCREASING DISTANCE BETWEEN THE DUCKS AND ME THAT GAVE THAT APPEARANCE. GRADUALLY THE TWO BECAME ONE AND THEN DISAPPEARED INTO THE EVENING SKY.  HAD THE REVERSE OCCURRED, THE TWO FLYING DIRECTLY TOWARD ME, INTO MY VERY FACE THE SAME THING WOULD HAVE OCCURRED UNTIL I COULD ONLY SEE THE FEATHERS ON THE ONE AND BE TOTALLY OBLIVIOUS TO THE OTHER. I SUPPOSE THERE IS A LESSON HERE, SOMEWHERE----IF WE ARE TOO CLOSE TO THE EVENTS SURROUNDING US WE ARE BLIND TO THE WHOLE AND IF WE ARE TOO FAR REMOVED THEN THE OBVIOUS IS OBSCURE.  "WHERE THE BIG MEETS THE SMALL YOU WILL FIND THE ANSWER TO IT ALL", MY GOOD FRIEND WHO ONCE SAID THIS HAS NOW LEFT THIS WORLD!  I DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER!!!!!!!

Behind The Vail

WHO ARE OUR FRIENDS IN NORTH AFRICA AND THE MIDDLE EAST, OR DO WE HAVE ANY REAL FRIENDS OTHER THAT ISRAEL?  THE ANSWER TO ANY ASTUTE OBSERVOR IS OBVIOUS, BUT FOR A VARITY OF REASONS MANY IN THIS COUNTRY ARE QUICK TO SUPPORT THE MOBS IN THE STREETS OF CAIRO AND LIBYA AND SEE ANY CHANGE IN THOSE AREAS AS A GOOD THING. THIS IS LIKE WALKING THRU THE DARKNESS WITH A BLINDFOLD ON.  THE TENS OF THOUSANDS IN THE ARAB STREETS CHANTING FOR FREEDOM ARE IN ALL LIKELYHOOD BEING CONTROLLED BY A HANDFUL OF MEN HIDING IN THE SHADOWS, WHO WILL REVEAL THEMSELVES IN THEIR OWN GOOD TIME AND ESTABLISH MORE DESPOTIC REGIMES.  I SEE NOTHING NEW EMERGING, BUT MORE DEATHS ON THE ARAB STREETS.  IN THE END THE VAIL WILL BE LIFTED AND THE CHEERS OF THE CROWDS SILENCED!

Moving Complete

Been in the process of moving for the last two weeks--quite tiring for an old man.  Just completed today and got the DSL on.  Will be posting again soon.  Living across from a big lake and looking forward to wetting a hook--hoping to catch that big one.
