ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION AND THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

Arizona is ready to pass the nations strongest illegal immigrant law. This coming as the violence south of the border is beginning to spill over into that state. Recently the murder of an Arizona rancher by a suspected illegal immigrant thought to be connected to the drug smuggling cartels highlighted this encroaching violence. All of this comes against the backdrop of increasing demands on that states social services caused by the 500,000 or so illegals there and the refusal of the federal government to do little. As usual the Catholic Church is showing its disconnect from the vast majority of Americans by siding with those in this country illegally. No wonder the church's numbers are dropping dramatically in this nation. The Los Angeles archdiocese and Cardinal Mahony are totally out-of-bounds when they compare supporters of this law to Nazis and Soviet-style communist. If the church continues down this path it will find its support and patronage shrinking even more.

Let us face a simple fact, although many come here to work, many also come here to obtain the free handouts or for criminal purposes and sadly those who cross the border of find an honest days work quickly find out that work is no longer necessary in this country in order to put food on the table and quickly find their way to the welfare rolls. We can no longer allow millions of illegals to come into our country. We find ourselves unable to maintain services for those Americans who are here legally. To continue the madness of an open border is just insanity! An insanity we can no longer afford. Seal the border, round up the illegals, and cleanse the welfare rolls of these free-loaders once and for all.
LOS ANGELES — The head of the nation's largest Roman Catholic archdiocese has condemned a proposed Arizona crackdown on illegal immigrants, saying it encourages people to turn on each other in Nazi- and Soviet-style repression.

The measure wrongly assumes that Arizonans "will now shift their total attention to guessing which Latino-looking or foreign-looking person may or may not have proper documents," Cardinal Roger Mahony said in his blog Sunday — a day before Arizona's Legislature sent the immigration enforcement measure to the Republican governor.

Gov. Jan Brewer has not indicated whether she will sign the bill, which creates a new state misdemeanor of willful failure to complete or carry an alien registration document. It would also require officers to determine people's immigration status if there's reason to suspect they're in the country illegally.

Arizona has an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants. Proponents of the bill say it was prompted by concerns over the cost of providing services to illegal immigrants and by the slaying of an Arizona rancher near the Mexican border this month. Authorities believe he was fatally shot by an illegal immigrant possibly connected to a drug smuggling cartel. Read full story at The Fox Nation

I totally agree!! As a Catholic I am appalled and frankly horrified at Cardinal Mahoney's comments. He is forcing the State to give up its sovereignty rights to have closed borders, and protect its citizens. Is there another country that's being forced to allow anyone who feels like to come into their country at any whim?

I am all for helping people but this kinda crap being spewed by the likes of Mahoney has got to stop!

What Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) has to say about Amnesty and Tax-Dollar Drain,

Lamar Smith is the Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee.

Outside of the usual articles from Bloggers like myself and other opponents of illegal immigration, here is a very eye-opening correspondence by an insider of the Washington beltway. While others fudge the truth or downright lie or release rancid propaganda to the masses. Here are some bitter truths that this Representative from Texas is availing us of the ugly truth and the calamitous situation sending us into a black bottomless pit of American bankruptcy.

Rep. Lamar Smith states:

President Obama and Congressional Democrats have been talking about giving amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. Tax Day seems like a good time to examine the impact that such a policy would have on your wallet.

Start with education. Using the average annual American public school elementary and secondary education costs, the Federation for American Immigration Reform has estimated that the total cost of K-12 education for illegal immigrant minors and the U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants is $28.6 billion a year.

Then there’s health care. If illegal immigrants are covered in the health care bill (there is not a strong verification mechanism to ensure they won’t get benefits), it would increase the bill’s costs between $10-$30 billion. Of course, it won’t matter if illegal immigrants receive amnesty since the new law requires health care coverage for everyone.

Social Security is another area of great concern. Claims by amnesty advocates that illegal immigration can “save” Social Security are false.

I heard about this this morning. Isn't it bizarre that supporting the breaking of laws has been accepted as the compassionate avenue to take.

We need a concerted effort to point out those supporting lawbreakers. Maybe try to send them to prison. Someone needs to prosecute.

Doesn't matter if it's a church or a business. It's against the law. It is so outrageous! How did we get here?

The Heritage Foundation really laid out the cost to this country of illegals and smashed all ideas that we cannot afford to send them packing.

I see Brittanicus mentions a Congressman that is going for the truth. That's excellent.

So, essentially, the Church is siding with the person who killed the rancher, as well as the killers of all the American citizens that are killed by illegals every year.

I was raised Catholic but I no longer consider myself to be a Catholic. I find these statements be be laughable. This man is comparing people who want to protect their families and loved ones from violent criminal Nazis? What is going on at the top of the Catholic church?

I've always wondered why illegal aliens were not considered part of local police matters. That's the discussion in AZ now. Apparently in the past police were not allowed to question, stop, or deal with illegals, that was supposed to be done only by the Feds, ICE, etc.

Seems to me the local police are the perfect ones to stop and arrest illegals. In most communities, especially small communities, the police know who belongs and who doesn't. Where we are it's like with the gays in the military "don't ask, don't tell". What a shame.

These are lawbreakers just like any other criminal.

Guess what! The INS is now telling cops not to send them anymore illegal aliens because they've been receiving too many. I know this is true because my son's a cop and he was told not to arrest any illegals simply because they're illegal. So it doesn't really matter whether or not government "cracks down" on illegals by cranking out laws. If the current laws aren't even being enforced as it is, then making them harder on the books won't amount to a hill of beans. arg. :(
