Boston Globe notices the solar eclipse will be best viewed across counties won by Trump

The last time we caught up with Boston and map-based musings – admittedly a somewhat specialized topic – the Boston public schools were endeavoring to fight the scourge of racist map projections.

That actually adds a dollop of melancholy to the most recent eruption from Beantown, because it appears to the unaided eye that the Globe is using a racist map projection to illustrate its point about the upcoming solar eclipse. The map in the Globe’s story looks like a Lambert Conformal projection, which presumably is not as bad as a Mercator. But it fails to show that Africa is bigger than North America. Apparently they still have work to do, racist-map-projection-wise, there in the crown jewel of the Bay State.

But the news you can really use is that the Globe’s Matt Rocheleau has taken a hard look at the projected path of the solar eclipse coming up on 21 August, and determined that it’s nearly free of counties won by Hillary Clinton in 2016.

My personal comments on Globe article:
One can only speculate as to the motives of those Trump-hating reporters at the Boston Globe for taking time away from their Russian collusion quest to dive so deeply into this astronomical event and it's relationship to the 2016 Presidential Election.  Perhaps, just perhaps they are hopeful, that Trump voters are so ignorant they will not take adequate precautions when viewing this rare solar event.  And as a result go blind and be unable to find the polling places in the 2018 and 2020!
However, I would contend those most likely to go blind in the path of this occurrence will be those who have confirmed their stupidity in the not too distant past by voting for Hillary Clinton.
FOR THOSE SO INCLINED, YOU CAN CALCULATE THE APPROXIMATE  WIDTH OF THE MOON'S SHADOW AS IT SWEEPS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES ON AUGUST 21. HINT:  THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TWO CONGRUENT TRAPEZOIDS.  OR  YOU CAN JUST GOOGLE IT.
